While the idea of a post-credit scene inmovies might seem like a new one, some fans will still remember frenetic drummer Animal telling them to go home after thecredits rolled in 1979'sThe Muppets Movie. However, there is no denying thetrend has become more popular in recent years, largely due to 2008'sIron Manpost-credit scene that revealed plans for the Avengers.

Since then almost every Marvel Cinematic Universe film has at least one stinger of footage, and other films have selectively used the credits to include extra footage, trailers for other films, or even make fun of the whole idea in general. So in honor of the upcoming New Year and end of the 2010's we wanted to take a look back and countdown the best post-credit scenes of the last decade.
FINDING DORY (2016)
Sometimes a post-credit scene will reveal something unexpected about the film ortease upcoming movies but in the case ofFinding Dory, Disney decided to reward fans with a little bit of fan service when the fish from the Australian dentist tank inFinding Nemo made their appearance in the sequel.
The Tank Gangarrivedstill trapped in the plastic bags they used to escape during the post-credit scene ofFinding Nemo, tying the two films together nicely. Theloveable crew presumably ends up in a much better home when they are shown to be picked up by workers from theMarine Life Institute.
JUSTICE LEAGUE (2017)
Justice League is not the best movie of the last decade, and in fact, is largely responsible for the failure of the DC Extended Universe and the ensuing plans for furtherJustice League films.However, the movie still had an incredibly fun post-credit scene that teased a new character and a potential team of villains.

The scene featured Jesse Eisenberg reprising his role of Lex Luthor fromBatman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice following his escape from Arkham. There he meets Deathstroke the Terminator (played by Joe Manganiello) and teases the idea of an Injustice League to rival the newly formed grouping of heroes that we will never get to see.
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES (2017)
While the Pirates of the Caribbeanfranchise had definitely lost some of itscharm by the fifth installment,Dead Men Tell No Talesstill managed to effectively wrap up the storyline of the original trilogy by ending the curse of the Frying Dutchman and returning Will Turner home to his family after decades at sea.
However, the post-credit scene made fans doubt the happy ending as Will woke up startled after a dream that saw Davy Jonesapproaching the bed as Will and his love Elizabeth slept. However, the camera revealedwet tentacle tracks on the floor before cutting to black, presumably alluding to a follow-up film.
VENOM (2018)
Fansmay have been questioning Sony's decision to bring Venom to the big screen without Spider-Man (more on him soon), but the film managed to create it's own story without the Spidey connection and managed to entice fans enough to get a sequel to further explore Tom Hardy's version of the character.

It's entirely likely that the decision to green-lit the sequel was influenced by fans' reactions toVenom's post-credits scene, which featured Hardy's Eddie Brock interviewing a serial killer named Cletus Kasady, played by Woody Harrelson, teasingtheinevitable showdown between Venom andCarnage.
RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES (2011)
One of the most successful reboots of the last decade was thePlanet of the Apes series, which kicked off withRise of the Planet of the Apes. The film introduced viewers to Ceaser, a genetically evolved ape who is instrumental in not only increasing the intelligence of his fellow apes but also starring in the resulting Dawn and War sequels.
Ceaser's evolution is the result of an Alzheimer's treatment that was tested on his mother, and it's a later version of this virus that is shown to betoxic to humans. The post-credit scene reveals how that virus that was accidentally spread during the film was then spread across the globe by an airline pilot, resulting in the downfall of humanity.
SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE (2018)
The multiverse spanning animated filmSpider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse introduced a few new Spider-Men (and Woman) to theater audiences, including series star and oneof the best new Marvel heroes of the decade, Miles Morales. However, the post-credit scene introduced not just another new Spider-Man, but also one from the future.
Oscar Isaac voiced the animated debut of Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099 as he conversed with his virtual assistant Lyla. Miguel decides to test his newly invented time travel device and head back to where it all began, hilariously appearing in the 60's Spider-Mananimated series' reality while potentially teasinga sequel.
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, Vol. 2 (2017)
Whiledancing Groot and Howard the Duck's appearance in the firstGuardians of the Galaxy's post-credit scenes were memorable, it's clear James Gunn wanted to not outdo not only his first film but also every other MCU stinger withGuardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2.
The sequel featured five separate mid/post-credit scenes that included Kraglin's first experiment with Yondu's arrow, a reunion of the original Guardians/Ravagers, the first appearance of Teen Groot, a tease of Adam Warlock (finally), and our personal favorite, Stan Lee's cameo-explaining cameo that introduced the Watchers.
KONG: SKULL ISLAND (2017)
Fans had seen a number of versions of the iconic monster King Kong on the big screen, butKong: Skull Island attempted to give the creature an origin story by exploring his home island with a star-studded cast of soldiers, photographers and mercenaries.

Some fans may have known thatSkull Island was the first of a new franchise of monster films, however, it wasn't until the post-credits scene revealed the Monarch organization and a few other monsters that movie-goers first got the idea that we were heading towards a confrontation between Kong and Godzilla.
THE AVENGERS (2012)
While the end shwarma scene was a nice way to end the film and show these epic heroes post-battle as they bonded over food, fans might have missed the scene altogether due to the fact they were talking about the mid-credit reveal of Thanos, the manipulator behind the Chitauri invasion that formed the Avengers.
Avengers: Endgame's subtle lack of a post-credit scene in favor of the sound of Tony Stark creating the first Iron Man armor may have been more touching, but the first tease of the Infinity Saga's big bad Thanos is hard to beat... but not impossible.
SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME (2019)
We previously mentioned Spider-Man's absence from Sony'sVenom film, which is due to the fact that he was starring in the MCU alongside the Avengers. Spider-Man's sequelFar From Homefeatured a mid and post-credit scene that were equally shocking to fans.
Mysterio's final act against Peter Parker was revealedas he leaked his secret identityand framed him, with none other than J.K. Simmonsbreaking the news as J. Jonah Jameson. Thenext scene then revealed that Nick Fury and Maria Hill were actually the Skrulls' Talos and Soren, with the real Fury revealed to be in space with other Skrulls. What the f--?
