@NCEL Help me understand how it is fair to have all these top prizes still out and the games ending while we know the top prize ticket is still sitting in Raleigh head quarters never even made it to a store to be won...You all can say anything and we are suppose to just believe it about giving back to the players when the same people keep winning second chances. I have been playing the lottery since day one and have not even won a shirt, hat, mug, or MONEY! You can't even find most of these games in a store!NC Lottery
Hi, Angela! Where a winning ticket will show up is a mystery until a lucky player scratches one off. Winning and non-winning tickets are distributed at random throughout the entire printing run of a game, so there's no telling where one could be or when it will be scratched off! When we make the unfortunate decision to end a game with prizes remaining, 50% of those prizes go to the education, and the other 50% go back to players in the form of prizes for other games and promotions.

I can't understand why employees can't play the lottery. I thought noone knows where the winning scratch off tickets were sent to.NC Lottery
Hi, Jackie! That's correct - winning and non-winning tickets are distributed at random throughout the entire printing run of a game, and we have no way of knowing where a lucky ticket will show up until a player scratches one off and comes in to claim. That said, in our commitment to integrity and fairness for all of our players, lottery employees and their household members are not eligible to play NC Lottery games.

Why do odds works when buying scratch offs, but when I enter my tickets into the 2nd chance drawings (which is a lot) NCEL says it takes only one ticket to win. Make it make sense! NC Lottery
Hi Denise, the odds of winning a prize on a scratch-off ticket can be found on the game info page for each game. You can check that information here: https://nclottery.com/scratch-off For Second Chance drawings, each time you scan a ticket into a drawing, you get an entry into that drawing. Every individual entry has the same chance of winning the drawing, and the odds are determined by number of entries the drawing has when the drawing is conducted.

It is interesting that there are active 2nd draw games from years ago. It seems NCEL method of opertion is to continually excel at their revenue intake year over year while stringing along their growing number of players. I guess I would be apathetic too if I worked for an employer who doesn't allow me or members of my family to win.NC Lottery
Hi Brian, games with higher price points and larger prizes, like $30 and $50 tickets are typically ordered in very large quantities with the intention that the ticket will be on sale at lottery retailers for several years. The Second Chance drawings are meant to be available to players for the entire time that ticket is on sale to public. Once a game is sold out, or removed from shelves, we will typically then conduct the last Second Chance drawing for that game.

I am curious if the NCEL auctions off unscratched lottery tickets as surplus property when the game ends. How entertaining that would be to find the top prize. Sure would generate much needed funds for schools.NC Lottery
Hi, Jackie! Remaining inventory for ended scratch-off games are destroyed, but half of the unclaimed prize money goes to education in NC, and the other half goes back to players in the form of prizes for other games and promotions!
